JohnnyU rallys to win Tourney #27 in the epic series

Updated: Mar 7, 2021

BNN Breaking News: Backgammon News Network 3-3-21: The dice were back in action Tuesday night as JohnnyU rallied for 6 straight points to secure a 15-9 win. It was a strong start for Urogdy opening a 7-1 lead highlighted by a digital cubing error by MollyMac preventing her from Doubling, a move which she claimed may have resulted in a 1 point win (a game which ultimately resulted in a JohnnyU gammon). JohnnyU refused to accept the purse of the game but did take the 2 points expanding his lead to 5-1.

Visibly upset by the game, Molly continued the downward spiral for two games before rattling off 6 straight points of her own to tie the contest at 7. Her victories included out running "Pepper the Ghost" with lightning rolls. Molly mocked the Ghost after the game, claiming his Nikes were untied. It was The Ghost's only appearance of the night. He was kept on the bench in a race that resulted in her first point of the day. Urogdy refused a cube, allowing the shutout bid to end. When the Ghost was interviewed, he shook his head and said, "Boo".

In a rare blunder, a JohnnyU Fat-finger resulted in a 1-point loss that tied the tourney at 7. Molly tried to capitalize with a double, but JohnnyU mitigated the error and declined. Team Urog-dog then rallied for 2 points to

stop the bleeding and offered a cube with a 6-point prime in the next game. MacIntosh seized on the opportunity as she held a lone Urogdy pip behind her own wall of 5. She accepted the cube, and Urogdy's prime broke before freeing his abandoned checker. Chaos took place in the Urogdy camp as he fought through the game, "Lo Mein Left", one of Urogdys coaching staff was clearly heard in the dugout ostracizing "the Double" When Lo Mein Left (translated No Man Left Behind), when queried after the game he spoke, "Bad bad cube... prime break when roll too high, too fast.. no need fortune cookie to see outcome.. bad bad cube"

Lo Mein Left was brought on to the team early last year to help teach Eastern philosophical backgammon strategy to the reckless Westerner. Clearly in last night's match, his conservative wisdom was ignored. The game gave Mac 2 points and the tourney was tied at 9. JohnnyU called a 30-second timeout, removed Lo from the equation (locker room), and regrouped for the final battles.

Urogdy finished the tourney strong winning 5 straight games including a gammon. The momentum was too much. Even "The Extinguisher", (Molly's only weapon off the bench that we are currently aware of) could not kill the Crawford light.

At one point late in the match, Molly referred to JohnnyU as "Your Highness", "Clearly she is accepting the realization of my dominance over the Backgammon Empire", beamed JohnnyU after the match. "After losing the 2021 opener, we've won 4 straight. Heading toward spring, we feel good. Clearly, there are improvements that need to occur, tonight's tourney was not a smooth one. Fortunately, we got the dice when we needed them and finished strong".

Molly's post-tourney interview uncovered an alternative truth, "High - Ness as in SUPER HIGH. JohnnyU continues to set new standards for those in the community that relies on delusions to get them through their mundane lives. The next person Urogdy hires on his staff should be a shrink. As for backgammon, the final score does not reflect the complexities of the games. I hate to be cliche, but the tourney was much closer than the score. I battled back from 7-1, outran the ghost, accepted a tough cube to tie the tourney at 9. The early and late stages of the game were rough. In game #1 for example, I had a clear lead, offered a good double, it was accepted and the dice didn't produce. Then the Gammon in the fat-finger game dug a hole. We are hoping to get another tourney scheduled this week, so we can show the Backgammon World that we are a rising force. Urogdy might be HIGH, but if he thinks he's on a throne... I'm taking him down"

Last night marked the 27th 15-point tourney in the modern era between the two rivals. This was JohnnyU's 25th win. The backgammon counsel is looking into expanding the circuit with sprint matches to 7. Although the 15-point matches are the crown - jewel of the backgammon world, both camps are reviewing opportunities to keep the fans engaged.

Drugs- Racism- Mythical Dice? Just another day at the Backgammon Arena. When Mac said HighNess... she meant it. Urogdy seemed unhinged at times yet somehow managed to win 15-9 last night. A tourney marred with doping allegations, racism boiling over from last week's white hooded fans of "the Ghost"...and last night, the chants of "CHINA-MAN", "CHINA-MAN" in the stands this week. The backgammon world wonders, who will be the next unruly character that Urogdy unleashes on us. And what rock does he find them under... And yes, more signs of Urogdy using black magic to conjure up rolls that just don't seem plausible to our team of statisticians at BOX News. Conspiracies? Sensationalism or TRUTH. You decide! Now Molly is no angel either. Her fans drink way too much. And by the end of the night, they are in the stands either sleeping, fighting, or running around naked wearing only dice earrings.

BOX News will delve deeper than "the doubles" to keep YOU informed on what's really happening in the Backgammon world! On the board and off!
