JohnnyU uncovered the pot of Gold in the Dublin Tourney that spanned ten days. Tourney #37 was all JohnnyU as he rolled to a 15-3 victory.
It was MacIntosh that opened the tourney with a win but in game #2 JU recorded a Gammon to go up 2-1. Mac tied the tourney at 2-2 coming one roll short of a gammon.
But then the luck of the Irish landed in the lap of JohnnyU, who knocked out seven straight points, including his 2nd gammon and a victory race by the Ghost. At 9-2, Mac had seen enough and called a time out that would span 10 days.
When the tourney resumed Tuesday night, Mac appeared dejected and resigned to fact that this tourney would not have a miracle comeback. Without fanfare or fire under her coffee pot, she went through the motions as Urogdy closed out the third trifectoid, taking home a 15-3 win.
After the match, Chip Checker caught up with the champ,
“We had the dice. Things just went our way. The second session was not much fun. Seemed like Mac had thrown in the towel. Not like her. Typically, she fights till the end, regardless of the score."
When asked about the layoff,
"We didn't take any time off, we entered a new platform called Galaxy to help improve our game. Raised our rating from 1500 to 1780 in a couple weeks. "We came back to Dublin, HOT, with a 10-match winning streak. We're hoping Molly joins the battles at Galaxy and slaps some of these players around too."
Kelly Kibitz Gossip Report:
People close to Mac-Camp are concerned about the future of MollyMac. Will Mac put her dice on the shelf? Some say, she has had enough! Our sources tell us that her financial dips of Lord of Boards and recent losses to JohnnyU have Molly self-doubting her backgammon prowess.
When BNN reached out to Mac for comment, she did not take our calls. We asked JohnnyU if he had insight,
"Lord of the Boards is not the platform to evaluate backgammon skills. Personally, I've lost 10 million in assets over the last 45 days, chasing the The Magical Unicorn and The Fearful Kraken, both of which I acquired by the way. It's a fun little game, but one not to be taken too seriously. Molly is way better than she thinks. With a dose of self-confidence and some fire in her gut to learn some new tactics, she will be able to take her game to a new level.
She may be suffering a case of BG Burnout. I've had it several times in my career, even taking years off, which I wish I hadn't. But backgammon is in our blood. She is young. Even if she takes a break, she will be back.
They call backgammon 'The Cruelest Game'. Cruel but beautiful, every game is similar, and none are alike. Backgammon has stood the test of time. Thousands of years of victories and heartbreaks. But win or lose, rated high or low, none of it matters. It is a social game where beginners can beat experts in any given game.
It is a lot like baseball. You play hundreds of matches and if you are playing over .500 ball, you are doing ok. If you play .600 ball, you’re in an elite class. And even if you play .400 ball, it’s still fun. Baseball is America's pastime... Backgammon is Earth's pastime.
And it's ok to take it seriously, I sure do, always trying to learn and improve..... just not too seriously where a loss ruins my day. Short memories are key. Because after a loss.... there is a fresh board, where anything can happen."
With that, JohnnyU shook his dice cups and said,
"36 combinations, and every 6 rolls are doubles. And then there is that fucking CUBE. Still learning when to fold 'em, when to hold 'em. It's a challenge!
Backgammon is not a game for the weak of heart, but it is a game with a lot of heart. And one thing I can tell you, Mac has a lot of heart. A competitive spirit that will rise about the ashes like a Phoenix. Mark my words... it won't be long before she is breathing the fire of freshly roasted coffee."
